THAC 020 : Intro Acting: Non-Major

Study the problems and techniques of acting through history, theory, and practice. Learn an appreciation of the actor's function as a creative artist through selected readings, exercises and play attendance. Examine the actor's craft through improvisation and exercises, physical and emotional skills.

Study the acting instrument and the processes and techniques of the actor. Learn improvisations and beginning scenes: textual analysis to perceive acting problems, personal involvement, selecting and accomplishing stage tasks.

Learn the fundamentals of script analysis, blocking casting procedures, compositions, and stage business and their relationship to technical theatre.

THAC 071 : Acting for Non-Majors

Study the theories of Viola Spolin, Daniel Pink, Rollo May, Edward de Bono, Eric Maisel and Michael Michalko. Learn to understand and utilize their creative abilities. Explore how to free the and explore mind, voice and body in an original and deeply creative manner. Explore how to become aware of processes that aid in reducing mental and physical tension, improving focusing skills, taking bold and spontaneous risks (both written and improvised). Learn to apply the creative process to fields beyond theatre, while also engaging in the principles of teamwork and leadership. Study honest and conscientious self and peer assessment, and techniques of creative application in order to drastically improve creativity and the ability to communicate that creativity through communication and interaction with others.
