Reinforces the range of skills practiced in Portuguese 001, while focusing on expanding the students vocabulary and fluency. Expands speaking, listening, reading and writing. Prerequisite: PORT 001

Expands the development of communicative skills with reading and oral discussion. Also includes an introduction to Luso-Brazilian culture and introduces selections by AFRO Brazilian writers. Prerequisite: PORT 002

Focuses on reading of selections by AFRO Brazilian writers, with intensive readings on topics of Luso-Brazilian culture and expansion of vocabulary useful for conservation and composition. Prerequisite: PORT 003

Focuses on a thorough review of major elements of Portuguese language structures. Prerequisites: PORT 004

Introduces students to the political issues, history and cultural traditions of Afro-Brazilians using contemporary film. course focuses on marginal voices, counter-narratives and urban spaces. Prerequisite: This is the COAS-Writing Intensive Course and requires prior writing courses.

Explores the evolution of Brazil cultural structures and illustrate its influence on contemporary global political processes. Open to all students.

Explores the works of African Brazilians contemporary writers and their relevance in the Brazilian Literary canon.

Explores hip hop music as a national genre in Brazil, from its earliest days in African-Brazilian communities (Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro). Prerequiaite: None

Using multimedia content, this course introduces students to the political issues, history and cultural traditions of Afro-Brazilians. During this writing intensive COAS Honors course, students will develop a stronger sense of an academic voice through our classroom discourse community focused on Afro-Brazilian cultural productions like film, TV, music, and images.
