Reinforces the range of skills practiced in FREN 001 while focusing on expanding the students' vocabulary and fluency. The emphasis is on active participation as a means of expanding speaking, listening, reading and writing skills introduced in FREN 001. FREN 106 : African Films

Examines Africa in film as well as films produced in Africa. It places cinema in Sub Saharan Africa in its social, cultural, and aesthetic contexts ranging from neocolonial to postcolonial, Western to Southern Africa, documentary to fiction, art cinema to TV, and includes films that reflect on the impact of global trends in Africa and local responses, as well as changing racial and gender identifications. Prerequisite: None

Provides guidance to student working on independent research project under the guidance of a faculty advisor or the equivalent.Provides guidance to the student in research on a specific topic or project. Enables students to propose and develop a topic of their interest and analyze it. Students are guided by a faculty mentor. Prerequisite: Instructor's permission.
